The Spear and Jackson traditional stainless steel transplanting trowel has a narrow and deep dished blade marked with graduations in inches making it ideal for transplanting plants in pots, tubs, bedding areas and borders. The trowel features a longer tang than usual (cranked or swan necked piece of metal which joins the blade to the handle) to reduce the chance of scraping the knuckles on the ground or hitting them on the trowel blade. The blade is made from mirror polished stainless steel which offers protection against rust and minimal soil adhesion, allowing the blade to slip easily into the soil and making for easier cleaning. The hardwood handle has been weatherproofed to further extend the life of the trowel. Spear and Jackson’s foundations were laid in 1760, since the beginnings centuries of experience and enhancement have resulted in the materials and development expertise that resides within the company and continuous enhancement is at the heart of the company's ethos. This drive to improve product materials and performance can be seen in many different ways across the company's 3,000 lines. The organisation has come a long way since 1760 and the Spear and Jackson group manufactures and distributes garden tools, metrology equipment, woodworking tools, metal working tools, saw blades and magnetic equipment. With divisions across England, France and Australia, Spear and Jackson is one of the world-wide brand, distributing products throughout the world. The tools are manufactured to a high quality standard and offer service and longevity, ensured against defects in manufacturing, subject to normal wear and tear and the provision of reasonable care and maintenance.
